The Belize Port Authority’s official notice. Issued by the Belize Port Authority.

Get Registered. Get Licensed. Stay Compliant.

The Belize Port Authority (BPA) is reminding vessel owners and operators of the importance of maintaining valid vessel registrations and up-to-date licences as part of its Registration & Licensing Exercise 2027.

Proper registration and licensing are essential to maintaining safety, accountability and compliance throughout Belize’s maritime sector.

According to the Belize Port Authority, all vessel owners and operators are required to ensure that their vessels are properly registered and their licences remain current. Compliance with these requirements helps the Authority maintain oversight of vessels, promote safety on Belize’s waterways, and protect lives, property and the country’s marine environment.

Required Documents

Vessel owners, operators and applicants should ensure that their documentation is complete and up to date.

The Belize Port Authority has identified the following requirements:

1. Social Security Card or Passport

Applicants must present a valid Social Security Card or passport as identification.

2. Proof of Address for Captains

A utility bill is required as proof of address.

If the utility bill is not in the applicant’s name, the individual whose name appears on the bill must provide:

  • An authorization letter.
  • A copy of their identification document.

3. Police Record

A police record is required for:

  • First-time applicants.
  • Individuals replacing a misplaced document.

4. Belize Port Authority Medical Certificate

Applicants requiring the BPA Medical Certificate can access it through the Authority’s official website: www.portauthority.bz

Why Registration and Licensing Matter

Maintaining up-to-date vessel registrations and licences supports the safe and responsible operation of Belize’s maritime industry.

These requirements help strengthen oversight, protect people and property, and contribute to the preservation of Belize’s marine environment.

Vessel owners and operators are encouraged to review their documentation and contact the Belize Port Authority for guidance on the applicable registration and licensing requirements.
